NATIONALPARK RETEZAT

The Retezat National Park is a must for avid hikers and nature lovers. It is a true rocky fortress in the Carpathian Mountains, with 20 peaks over 2000 meters high. There is also the third highest peak in Romania – the Peleaga peak with a height of 2509 meters. Hiking in Retezat is a truely unique experience. Paths and routes meander in between more than 80 glacial lakes. For this reason, Retezat is also known as the “land with blue eyes”. Here are just few possible attractions in this beautiful park:

Wasserfal Lolaia –  (Cascada Lolaia) – one of the most beautiful sights in Retezat.

Lake Bucura – (Lacul Bucura) – the largest glacial lake in Retezat and Romania.

Peleaga Peak – (Vârful Peleaga) – the highest peak in Retezat – 2509 meters

Church Sântămăria-Orlea (Biserica de la Sântămărie – Orlea) – once Catholic, is one of the oldest churches in Romania.

Prislop Monastery (Mănăstirea Prislop) – one of the most famous and important Orthodox pilgrimage sites

Castle Hunedoara (Castelul Corvinilor) – one of the largest castles in Europe and on the list of the seven wonders of the world in Romania.

Deva Fortress (Cetetea Deva) – medieval fortress from the second half of the 13th century.

Densus Church (also known as St. Nicholas Church) – is probably the oldest stone church in Romania.
